“Localised SEO – 4 Billion Euros in Online sales in Ireland in the Last 12 Months”
The above is a heading for a page I wrote 14th November 2014. It was about Irish sales online. I also estimated an online spend increase of 20% per annum. I was wrong! ( It happens occasionally!) According to research done by the Irish government and the Irish Times, the online spend in the 12 months leading up to May 2016 was 7.5 Billion! (This is only consumer spend. The actual spend online was 12.6 Billion!)
This means that online sales were up 87.5% in 18 months. A staggering figure I am sure you’ll agree. They are also projecting a 25% per annum growth for the next 3-5 years. This makes it all the more imperative that your business has an effective online presence.
Retail outlets in Ireland are projecting a weak buy coming up to Christmas.
Why?
People are now buying online as never before. You can find the best bargains and have them sent to you without ever having to leave the comfort of your own home. This means not having to face the Christmas crowds and this is very appealing to a lot of people.
The weak pound is also adding to the problem. It is now cheaper to buy the same article or product in England and have it posted over than to buy it in the shop in Ireland.
E-commerce is here to stay and if possible you should be leaping on the bandwagon before you are left in the dust. Yes, this is a scare tactic but only like warning a child not to touch a flame. It is for their own good.
